As a beginner to canning, I don't have a lot of experience to compare this to, but this kit worked very well for me. The pot is huge. Reading the specs doesn't really prepare you for how large it is. My girl friend and I spent an eight hour day in the kitchen recently and really put everything shown here to the test, with fabulous results. I would give this product five stars, but the jar lifter in this kit is junk. Instead of rubber or something similar to protect the jar, the pieces on the bottom of the jar lifter are two pieces of rigid plastic snapped together. Both sides broke off about halfway through one day of canning. I was still able to finish without them on there, but was pretty disappointed in that piece. Everything else worked like a charm.

The total kit is competitively priced and has all the basic equipment needed by a beginner caner.However, I an very disappointed with the Chrome plated rack as I used the rack once and noticed the next day that the rack had rust on all the points where it was soldered to the joining ring. This rust will greatly shorten the life of this item.Ball should be ashamed to sell such a poorly manufactured product; therefore only two stars otherwise would get 5 stars as the rest of the kit was of good quality.

I just purchased this set and was very excited to use it, did my first canning project and the rack is already rusted in the seams. Says made in america but all the pieces that come with it are made in china and cheapily made. I really try to support american made and this is one of the reasons I was wanting to order a "Ball" product so I was very disappointed to see the quality of the accessories and rack that was sent. No problems thus far on the canner itself but we will see how it goes with future use.
