I only purchased this knife today so I can't vouch for how long it will stay sharp but, for now, it's a great knife. I just tried it out for cutting a fresh white bread sandwich and it went through it without crushing the bread at all. I have several good chef's knives, but this one seems at least as good as either my Henckels or Wusthof, both of which are made in Germany. I don't have the pleasure of owning any of the excellent (but expensive) Japanese knives, so I can't compare it to them. But, for the price, I am very pleased! And it has a good weight to it and feels good in the hand.I really didn't need another knife but I am considering buying the Berndes Mastery 6 piece set with the magnetic board for a gift and I wanted to try one knife just to see how the Mastery line is, as I couldn't find any reviews. I'm glad I did, as this seems to be a very good knife and I feel confident to purchase the set as a gift. I translated some of the German writing on the knife and I came up with "fully forged, cast by hand", which sounds good to me.I will update if there are any disappointments but right now I will have to highly recommend it!
